What happens during breast augmentation surgery?
In order to properly position your breast implants, Dr. Greenwald will choose to make incisions under the breast crease, under the armpit or around the areola. The implant can be placed under the pectoral muscle or over the muscle, directly behind the breast tissue. Incision location and implant placement vary based on the type of implant the size of the implant and the patient’s anatomy.
As with any procedure, breast augmentation surgery presents certain risks, including bleeding, infection, asymmetry and changes in nipple or breast sensation. Plastic surgery doctors strongly suggest that patients who are at a higher risk for breast diseases have their implants placed under the muscle.
