Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) is a fat removal method used to treat fat pockets that won’t respond to diet and exercise. At Bayshore Plastic Surgery in Tampa, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Daniel Greenwald performs PAL on patients in the Tampa Bay area who are seeking liposuction to improve and define the contours of their arms, legs, hips, thighs, flanks, abdomens, and waistlines.

What Happens During PAL?

PAL is a procedure similar to traditional, suction-assisted liposuction, during which a surgeon manually moves a cannula through pockets of fat to break up cells before they are suctioned out of the body. PAL differs in that a special, mechanized cannula is used, reducing the need for manual movement. The procedure is more efficient than traditional liposuction and does not use a laser or other heat source, which can destroy fat cells. This is especially helpful when PAL is used as a fat grafting technique.

Fat grafting involves surgically removing fat, purifying it, and then re-depositing it into other areas of the body. Power-assisted liposuction is a fast and effective alternative to the traditional fat grafting method of harvesting cells by hand via a syringe.

Fat Transfer for Buttock Augmentation

Dr. Greenwald often uses power-assisted liposuction before performing a Brazilian buttock augmentation. He injects purified fat in small amounts throughout a patient’s buttocks until the desired contour and shape is achieved. In some cases, several fat transfer procedures may be required to ensure long-term volume and symmetry.

Dr. Greenwald was educated and trained at Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and the University of Chicago, and has more than 20 years of experience performing power-assisted liposuction and many other cosmetic procedures. Patients throughout Tampa Bay turn to him for expert advice regarding this procedure, or a combination of other procedures, that can best help them achieve their aesthetic goals.
