Dr. Greenwald, named one of America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumer Research Council in 2009, is highly skilled in a number of surgeries many women seek including breast augmentation procedures, facelifts, tummy tucks, and liposuction. When it comes to labiaplasty surgery, his more than two decades of experience in helping women with these procedures ensures that the results are natural looking and satisfying. Some of the many benefits our patients can experience are:

  • Correction of elongated or asymmetrical lips
  • Elimination of pain felt when wearing tight pants
  • End of embarrassment felt during intimate moments
  • Elimination of pain experienced during sexual intercourse

What happens during labiaplasty surgery?

At Bayshore Plastic Surgery in Tampa, we suggest that labiaplasty patients abstain from drinking alcohol or smoking for at least a week prior to the surgery. To prevent the risk of excessive bleeding, aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, blood thinners, vitamin E, Omega-3 fatty acids, some herbal medications such as gingko biloba, and other consumables may also be prohibited.

Once the labiaplasty surgery is underway, Dr. Greenwald cuts and shortens the large or uneven inner vaginal lips with specialized scissors, a scalpel, or a laser. The outer lips are reduced with plastic surgery or liposuction. The site of the incision depends on the size and configuration of the labia. After the reshaping is complete, the plastic surgeon will suture the incision closed with dissolvable stitches. Surgery typically lasts about two hours.

Surgical Concerns

You may experience some bruising, tenderness, and swelling around your vagina after your labia reduction surgery. Some risks related to labiaplasty include infection, bleeding, numbness, hematomas, excess scar tissue buildup, and sexual dysfunction. You should abstain from having sexual intercourse or any strenuous activities for about four weeks. Using tampons is also prohibited for about 10 days after your labiaplasty procedure, but you will need to wear a sanitary pad for one week or less while you’re recovering since you could experience some bleeding.
