Tumescent liposuction is an excellent option for those seeking a slimmer, more sculpted body. This minimally invasive procedure safely removes undesired fat that doesn’t respond to dieting or exercise. At Bayshore Plastic Surgery, this innovative cosmetic surgery procedure is performed by Board Certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Greenwald. Trained and educated at Princeton, Harvard, Yale, and the University of Chicago, Dr. Greenwald has achieved successful results for his Tampa patients for more than 16 years.
A tumescent liposuction operation distinguishes itself from other liposuction procedures in various ways:
- Smaller incisions are made, generally resulting in minimized scarring.
- Offers greater precision for the removal of more fat.
- Ability to minimize post-operative discomfort and reduce the chance of infection.
What happens during a tumescent liposuction procedure?
Dr. Greenwald will first inject a solution containing a local anesthetic into a fat deposit. The solution causes the targeted area to become swollen and firm, making the fat easier to move by increasing its size. Next, a small incision is made in the skin. A tube called a cannula is inserted and the fat and tumescent fluid are extracted. If needed, the incision may be closed with stitches.
Although tumescent liposuction is generally considered safe, minor complications may occur during your liposuction recovery such as infection, numbing of the skin, or fluid accumulation.
